Heavenless Riddim | The origin of The Heavenless Riddim dates back as early as the 60's. It was a Studio One rhythm first released in 1968. The original version was a trombone lead instrumental featuring Vin Gordon aka Don Drummond Jr. The nickname “Don Drummond Junior” was coined at Studio One. It was given to Vin Gordon, apparently because he sounded a lot like Don Drummond, the founding member of Skatalites. Coxsone Dodd the producer and founder of Studio One, influential in the development of ska and reggae in the 1950s, 1960s and beyond, included the track "Heavenless" on The Best Of Don Drummond LP (B side) which has lead to the song being mistakenly credited to Don Drummond up to this present time. The Heavenless riddim has a very long history and has become one of the most versioned riddim tracks in Jamaican musical history. In 1986 Jammy put his spin on the riddim and included the likes of Admiral Bailey, Shabba Ranks, Cocoa Tea and a slew of other artists. Other labels on the riddim include Studio 2000, Father & Son Records, Live And Love & Stereo One to name a few. Credit to all other producers, labels and artists on this riddim. A historical and classy riddim indeed!!
